Aches and pains are an inevitable part of modern life whatever our age and lifestyle. The human body is an amazing self-repairing organism but it isn’t perfect and can’t always fully fix all the accidents and injuries we get.

And the older we get the less well it can repair so the cumulative effect of postural and occupational stresses as well as the legacy of past injuries eventually take their toll. We all know deep down that we won’t live forever but we want to believe our body will keep going at 100% until that time comes, but it sadly doesn’t. Although that backache, stiff shoulder or painful knee isn’t going to kill us it does affect our enjoyment of life on many levels. They are not usually severe enough to justify drastic medical treatment so we just have to suffer with them. Or do we?

People have massage therapy for lots of different reasons, but here are some common conditions that massage can help with:

We offer 4 different restorative massage treatments at the studio…

Sports Massage

Our Sports Massage treatments have been created specifically for people with busy, active and sporting lifestyles. The overall aim of sports massage is to prevent injury, enhance performance, and aid recovery. In a lot of cases the golden rule is “prevention is better than cure”. If we can help prevent injuries this allows us to train harder, for longer, with less time out of the game.  Some of the most common sports injuries are overuse / over-training injuries. It’s easy to become so focused on your sport that you are unaware of developing soft tissue problems. If left untreated this can lead to painful injury and lengthy rehab.  Regular sports massage can be used to help prevent these issues developing. In order to achieve optimal performance we look to improve muscle efficiency, keeping muscles strong but supple. If you are unlucky enough to have sustained an injury, then the remedial effects of sports massage can help you to recover more quickly and reclaim any lost range of motion.

Deep Tissue Massage

This remedial massage will restore tight muscles, boost recovery and improve circulation. You will receive a bespoke massage treatment, based on your individual needs and goals. Helping to reduce pain and muscle tension, encourage better posture and improve movement patterns. A lot of us are spending more time sitting down, whether that be at a computer, driving or watching TV. This can lead to some muscles becoming tighter and weaker, and others becoming overused. You will notice the wonderful benefits of this massage almost immediately. Regular treatments can help to prevent problems reoccurring, keeping niggles and injuries at bay.

Soft Tissue Therapy

This is the ideal treatment for people experiencing aches and pains brought on by an active lifestyle, sports and hobbies. Our bodies are designed to move, and our muscles and joints are at their happiest when we lead a more active lifestyle. Soft tissue massage therapy combines a mixture of massage techniques, muscle energy techniques and specialist stretches to help keep you on top of your game and recovering quickly. You will receive a bespoke treatment, based on your individual needs and goals. Whether you’re looking to rehabilitate an injury, treat a certain condition, improve your flexibility, or just iron out niggles.

Appointments are holistic and generally last between 1.5 – 2 hours.

Top Tips when coming for a massage appointment:

  1. Stay well hydrated before and after treatment as this will help to flush out any toxins released into the bloodstream during treatment.

  2. Avoid the consumption of alcohol before or directly after treatment as this will dehydrate you and make you feel a bit groggy and lethargic.

  3. Avoid eating a large meal before coming for treatment.

  4. Give yourself plenty of time either side of your appointment (allow up to 2 hours). This will help you avoid rushing around and getting stressed, both of which are counter productive to your tretament.

  5. Wear something you are comfortable in.

Before your first appointment you will receive an online health questionnaire. The information gathered on this form will help us to assess what treatment will be best for you. Please let us know if you:

What our Massage clients say about us…

“The sports massages and stretches that Gary carries out are second to none.  As previously mentioned I have had many sports massages but Gary is by far the best.  He has a thorough understanding of anatomy and explains in detail areas that he is focusing on.  The most unique thing I have experienced from Gary is his dedication to work beyond his requirement to achieve the best possible outcome.  His stretches are expertly carried out and the muscle massage is targeted and so effective.  I can get now walk and sit for longer periods with less pain.”
